Kindergarten Fives
K5
Parents and Visitors,
Well we are off to a good start in the Eagle's Nest! I am enjoying getting to know new students and parents to LCA.
K5 students began right away learning the routines of kindergarten and having new responsibilities. In social studies we have begun discussing "community" and learning about the Vick family that is moving to Pine Hill in our curriculum. We have started using our number flashcards, introduced to letter sounds and most of all beginning each day with Bible class. Students are learning that God created the world.
As a reminder, please follow dress code. If you have questions I will be glad to answer them for you. Also send in a change of school clothes (season appropriate) in case of accidents.
Enjoy time with family this Labor Day weekend!
In His Service,
Mrs. Stitely

Eagle's Nest Preschool
Five Year Old Program
Bible
The students have a time of studying God's Word on a daily basis through biblical stories, memory verses and character stories. The students are taught what Creation is all about, the importance of family to God, their involvement in church and their community. Positive character skills will be encouraged and discussed along with daily prayer. Also the students will attend chapel with the student body, giving them a time of corporate worship, prayer and bible instruction thru the preaching of God's Word.
Phonics/Reading
The introduction to letter recognition and reading are accomplished through phonetic learning. Each letter has a sound, and then letters are combined together to form word families. Word reading is approached by adding a beginning letter or special sound to the word family. The following group of words is an example of this. Word family at in cat, sat, pat, bat. There are words called service words or sight words that are memorized. After a time of mastering these skills, the students will begin reading phrases which will lead into sentence reading. The children will listen to stories at the beginning of the year, but will advance into reading on their own. Stories will be accompanied by questions that will help develop thinking skills; literal, interpretive, critical and appreciative. All the stories presented help to foster comprehension in the student.
Math
Math for the K5 student will introduce them to the tools needed to be successful at math concepts. The student will learn the recognition of numbers thru 100, identify simple shapes, addition and subtraction, fractions, time, measurements and much more. Concrete manipulatives, question and answer and small group activities help the student in mathematics.
Social Studies
It is important that they begin to notice the world around them. Social Studies to the K5 student should be simple; family, the community they live in and their state, country and visit a few continents around the world.
Science
Science is happening around us all the time. God's creation has given us the opportunity to experience His great and mighty power. The students will have hands on experiences through cooking, nature walks, experiments and much more. The students will also learn about the seasons, weather and the many different animals.
Other subjects covered in K5 are writing, physical education, art and music.
The world passeth away...
but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
