SOAR is LCA's comprehensive summer camp program for children who have just finished grades 1 - 6. The Eagle's Nest Preschool also has a summer program. There is not a better program available in our region. SOAR is an acronym that stands for Summer Occupation Academic and Recreation Camp. There are five two-week camps, each with a theme that provides students opportunities to experience life skills. In addition, every camp includes a daily time for students to maintain their math and reading skills while they are away from school. Finally, camp would not be camp if there wasn't ample time for fresh air, sun, and fun.

Schedule

Leaping Literature Jun 15th - Jun 26th

Leaping Literature! So much to read - so little time. We will take two weeks to visit places we may never see with our own eyes through the gift of literature. We will use drama, technology and hands on activities to venture to real as well as imaginary places. We will highlight the camp by a visit to the library.

Academic Focus: We will focus on literature, reading, and library skills. Younger students will be introduced to authors, books, and videos that help their imaginations to grow. Older students will develop an understanding of the various genres of literature through reading, video and activities as well as learn the value of library skills and online literature resources.

Exploration Vacation Jun 29 - Jul 10th

What a great big wonderful world God has given us! Our Exploration Vacation will be a chance to get our hands dirty and imagine ourselves scientists and explorers who are investigating a newly discovered world. We will develop investigative skills and end the camp with a hike and picnic lunch.

Academic Focus: We will focus on science and math with an emphasis on documenting and measuring our discoveries. Younger students will learn to identify various plants and animals making their own collections and learning to map their discoveries. Older students will discover local biomes as well as learn how early explorers surveyed and mapped new territory.

Creative Natives Jul 13th - Jul 24th

Did you know that creativity is inborn? That is why we are all Creative Natives. In this two week camp we will participate in music, movement, and acting. Communicating through the performing arts is native to who we are as God’s creation. We will finish our week “On Stage” for our parents and friends.

Academic Focus: We will focus on music, movement, and dramatic performance. Younger students will be introduced to musical instruments and creative movement with a special focus on expressing themselves. Older students will have an opportunity to hone the creative gifts they already have or experiment with singing, dancing, and acting, all with a technological edge. Can anyone say, “The camera is rolling?”

Camp David Jul 27th - Aug 7th

At Camp David we will be partnering with Bethel Assembly’s Vacation Bible School for one of our weeks. What a great opportunity to learn about Biblical character and the shepherd David before he became King David. We will expand on this theme to introduce our students to another Camp David and the character required to be a leader such as the President of the United States.

Academic Focus: We will focus on Biblical character and the presidents of the United States. Younger students will meet presidents they already know and many that they do not know. Older students will learn unique things about many of our presidents and the historical events that forged their character.

360° World Aug 10th - Aug 21st

Let's celebrate culture! We will explore the many cultures of the world through various hands on activities, crafts, music, stories, maps, and research. We will end the camp with our own 360 degree feast. The cultures of the world are so rich and full of many traditions to discover.

Academic Focus: We will focus on the geography and history of cultures 360 degrees around the world. Younger students will enhance their recognition of continents and countries on the globe and understand the relationship between climate and the way people live. Older students will dig into some pretty interesting history and discover that others live much differently than we do.
